CRTC+ is an opportunity for a student to supplement their CRTC program with outside activities aligned to their college and career goals. The student who does CRTC+ must be willing to be flexible and create a personalized plan. Demonstrating responsibility and embracing independence are required skills.

Many students are thinking about their high school experience differently and are unaware of the wide range of opportunities available to them. CRTC+ enables you to enhance your junior or senior year by getting a head start on college and careers.

CRTC+ is open to any CRTC student in good standing with the recommendation of their teacher. The experience can be in addition to your basic CRTC class or can be a customized experience after completion of Year II.

• Enrolling in college classes aligned to a student’s career pathway (at a discount of 50% or more)
• Pursuing an industry recognized certificate (IRC) not offered in your program.
• Participating in an advanced internship or pre-apprenticeship with a local industry partner.
• Taking a leadership role in one of our CRTC businesses or programs.

All of the activities related to CRTC+ are designed using the ELO (Extended Learning Opportunity) model. This model involves a mix of learning targets, logs, presentations and reflection. Outcomes are clearly established from the start.

YES! We work with your school counselor to ensure that participation in CRTC+ meets your graduation requirements. Students enrolled in CRTC+ can still participate in school sports, plays, orchestra, prom, graduation, etc.

The largest cost, if chosen, would be college tuition and books. There are a number of opportunities state-wide to drastically reduce tuition; for example, high school students pay only 50% tuition for CCSNH . In addition, if the course is considered a STEM related class, there may be 100% tuition coverage. 

There may be expenses that families need to pay; for example, transportation, work attire, tools, supplies, books, license fees, etc. 

Interested students should make a 20-minute appointment with the CRTC Office. We will discuss your college and career plans and may ask the following: 

• What is your college and career plan at this time? How confident are you of this plan?
• Where do you see yourself in the next 3-6 years? What will you be doing?
• How do you envision your CRTC+ year looking (list any mix of college classes, internship, high school classes, Career Communications CRTC, work in the field)?
• Do you have specific people, schools, industry locations in mind at this time? List any possibility here along with web links.
• Are you able, and what’s your readiness, to be more independent and be out of the regular high school “bell” and “attendance” structure?
• Are those around you including your parent/guardians and school representatives supportive of this basic idea? Are they urging you to go forward?
• Review with your school counselor: What courses do you need to complete to meet all your high school requirements? Be specific including a reference to the exact number of credits.
• Review with your school counselor and/or administration: Is it possible to get high school credit for college courses you complete?
